Kids In College

For over 40 years, Ohio University Chillicothe has offered an opportunity for highly motivated students (Kindergarten through 8th grade) to reinforce the knowledge and instruction they received in school.

Kids in College is a summer enrichment program for students who are interested in the sciences, arts, languages, and history. This hands-on programming is staffed by a variety of enthusiastic, imaginative instructors, business owners, and college faculty.

Cost per class is $35. Some classes require additional material fees. Please check the class description for additional fees.

Participants may purchase a Kids in College shirt.

Course Schedule

Morning Session | 9:15 am to 11:45 am

A Universe of Discovery

We find ourselves in a Universe containing hundreds of billions of galaxies, each containing hundreds of billions of stars. We've observed everything from giant clouds of cold gas harboring stellar nurseries to the titanic explosions produced by the collisions of dead star cores. In this class we'll explore some of these discoveries, the tools and methods scientists use to make these discoveries, and how those same methods can be used to make new discoveries closer to home.

Summer Time Sweets at Nellie Dog

At Nellie Dog Pottery & Paints, art is our thing and fun is our game. Art is a great way to build your child’s self- confidence and creative skills. In this class the kids will paint on multiple different media types and get an introductory to clay hand building. They will use a variety of tools, media, paints, and glazes (Pottery). Imagination is the goal and fun is the outcome. Come Paint with Nellie Dog Pottery and Paints!

STEAM

Let's get together this summer and learn about STEAM—Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics.  We will work on several hands-on, minds-on projects that are fun and engaging. We will integrate the arts into STEM to allow students to show what they have learned in a very visual way.  I cannot wait to see you this summer in STEAM!!!!

Afternoon Session | 12:30 to 3 pm                                                                                      

Watercolor for Kids

Encourage your young artist to learn the art of watercolor. Kids will enjoy learning techniques for mixing paint, caring for a brush, and stroke-making, then practice making happy art as they create watercolor projects that are cute enough to proudly display.

Grades: K-3

Objective Reality Game Design

Do you want to learn how to make your own video game? Objective Reality is hosting an introduction to the tools used by game developers. Learn from design professionals, how to build in the Unity game design engine to create your very own game.

Location: Ohio University Chillicothe, Bennett Hall Room 273
